Mary Miller Obituary

Mary Lou “Pie” Thornton Miller was born May 26, 1940 in Summersville, Kentucky to the late Horace
Hobert “Buck” Thornton and Icy Pearl Richardson Thornton. She departed this life Tuesday,
January 18, 2022 at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital, having attained the age of eighty-one years, seven months and twenty-three days.
She professed a belief in Christ at a young age and was baptized and united with Jacob Grove Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to First Baptist Church, Lebanon, KY.  She was involved in several ministries at First Baptist Church and served faithfully until her health prevented her from doing otherwise. She was active in the Greensburg and Lebanon communities, an avid UK Wildcats fan, loved to play Bingo, never missed a yard sale, and had a passion for shopping.

She was educated at the Lincoln Institute High School located in Lincoln Ridge, Kentucky. She was a majorette and involved in many other school activities. She faithfully attended the Lincoln
Institute reunions every two years and enjoyed connecting with classmates and meeting other Lincoln Institute Alumni. She was united in marriage to the late Charles William Miller. This union brought four children, one of which, Charles Reginald Miller, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Tyrone Miller, Greensburg, Kentucky; Briggit Miller and Pamela Miller, Lexington, Kentucky; a sister, Nora Thornton, Indianapolis, IN; a brother, James
“Mann” (Alberta) Thornton, Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Addie Wood, Grand Prairie, TX; an aunt, Cora Marie Smiley, Louisville, KY; three grandchildren: Tiagia Miller, Lexington, KY; Blake Sanford, Houston, TX; and Jordan Miller, Lexington, KY; twelve great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, a special friend, Ike Calhoun and his son, Kevin Calhoun. She was a precious gift from God to all that knew her. She warmed our hearts and filled our spirits. She fought hard until her strength was gone. We will try not to think much about her fight for breath or the pains that filled her body, but will celebrate her life with love and memories of all that she shared with us. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. We will miss her dearly, but she will remain forever in our heart.
