Nelson Pickett was born March 17, 1948, in Adair County to the late Herbert “Stanford” and Elnora Martin Pickett. He departed this life Saturday, June 20, 2026, in Louisville, KY having attained the age of seventy-eight years, three months and three days of age.

Nelson made a profession of faith in Christ and was a devoted member of Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Throughout the years, he faithfully served his church as a former Elder, assistant Sunday School Teacher, and volunteered for the Crossroads Youth Program. He also served as Secretary of Summersville Volunteer Fire Department and was a former member of the Jaycees. He was honored to be named Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed traveling, farming, movies, sports, and antiquing, but above all, he loved spending time with his family and took great pride in supporting his grandchildren at their extracurricular activities and special events.

Nelson was a graduate of Campbellsville College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He later continued his studies at Western Kentucky University, earning a master’s degree and Rank I certification in educational administration and instructional leadership. He began his career in education as a grade school teacher at both Greensburg and Summersville Elementary Schools. After which, he later became principal at Summersville Elementary School and Green County High School, where he ended his 33-year career in education. He was also a licensed realtor with Green River Realty and Durrett Realty.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by one grandson: Michael Pickett.

Survivors include: his wife: Nancy Foster Pickett of Greensburg; two sons: Chris Pickett and his wife Anna of Bardstown, KY and Roan Pickett of Fort Polk, Louisiana; one daughter: Sarah Roy and her husband Reggie of Russell Springs, KY; one brother: Harold Pickett of Charlestown, SC; one sister: Benita Penick of Greensburg; five grandchildren: Lilly Pickett, Foster Pickett, Murray Pickett, Madelyn Roy, and Ozzy Roy; plus a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Nelson Pickett will be 10 AM Central Time Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bro. Bren Bishop and Bro. Kevin Brantley officiating. Burial to follow in the Green County Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 4 PM until 8 PM Central Time at Foster-Toler Curry Funeral Home and beginning at 8 AM Central Time at Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Thursday until time of the funeral service.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church Crossroads Program and those can be made at the funeral home.
