Michael John Simpson was born on February 28, 1962, to the late Kathleen Florence and John Dean Simpson in Mobile, Alabama. He spent most of his childhood traveling in the Airforce with his family and adult life with his family in Tampa, Florida. He departed from this life on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at his home in Sulphur Well, Kentucky.
Michael spent more than twenty years as a City Carrier for the US Postal Service. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mike was a brilliant artist - a master with an airbrush, a painter, drawer, writer, graphic designer, woodworker, and more. He was an avid longboarder, loved being in his workshop, made people laugh with his quick-witted one-liners, and was always thinking about his next project. He loved wildlife, especially feeding his hummingbirds. Michael was an encyclopedia of rock bands.
He has now been called home to his wife: Shelia; his parents, his older brother: Graham; his daughter: Maeghan Jae, and his brother-in-law: George Hobson.
He is survived by his son: Sean and his wife Rachael; grandchildren: Genevieve Shavon, Jeremiah Kai, and Jasmine Abigail Simpson; brothers and sisters: Frankie Stapleton of Hawaii, Lyman Shepard of Tampa Florida, Janet L. Hobson of Tampa Florida, Diane Kenyon of Sulphur Well, Stewart Shepard of Hawaii, Sherrie Lieski of Warner Robbins, Georgia, and Marianne Rafferty of Interlachen, Florida; nephews: Tommy, Jeremy, Trevor, Jesse and Brian; nieces: Shelley, and Jade; nine great nieces and nephews, including Abigail; plus many other relatives and friends. His unique, one-of-a-kind soul will be terribly missed and never forgotten. May we all know love in this sorrow, comfort in this pain, and mercy in this grief.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 12-2PM at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home. A short graveside service will be held before he is laid to rest at the Kenyon Family Cemetery.
