James W. "Bud" Price

Mr. James Wesley "Bud" Price was born May 25, 1937, in Green County, Kentucky, to the late Frank Johnson Price and Mildred Elaine Killen Price. He departed this life on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the age of 89. Bud made a profession of faith in Christ at Hodges Chapel Church, where he was a member. His love for God, family, and community was reflected throughout his life. On December 17, 1960, Bud married the love of his life, Brenda "Sue" Price. Their life together was one built on love, hard work, family, and home. Except for several years when employment required them to split their time between Louisville and Summersville, Bud spent all 89 years of his life on the same land. No matter where life temporarily took them, Summersville was always home, and he and Sue returned there permanently following her retirement. Together, Bud and Sue owned and operated Bud's Gas and Oil in Summersville. Bud was also a lifelong farmer, a jack of all trades, and a master of piddling. Although his formal education ended after the eighth grade, his knowledge and abilities far surpassed anything that could have been measured by a diploma. His wisdom was known throughout his business dealings and his community, and his family relied on it throughout his life. His kids considered him one of the smartest people they knew. When something broke or went wrong, Bud was the first phone call. He could fix just about anything, and if he couldn't, you could count on him eventually figuring out a solution. The farm was much more than land to Bud. It was his home, his life's work, and a legacy filled with memories. He loved it until the very end. In fact, on the same day he went to the hospital, Bud had been doing what he had done for a lifetime - working on his farm and bushhogging. Bud proudly served in the Kentucky Army National Guard, and his patriotism remained a strong part of who he was throughout his life. Second only to his love for God was his beloved Sue. Her passing in 2020 left a space in his heart that never truly healed, and he mourned her every day for the remaining six years of his life. Bud will be remembered for his big smile, the sound of him always whistling, his wisdom, his ability to fix nearly anything, and the way he could hardly make it through telling an old story or memory without laughing himself. When his final, unexpected illness came, Bud was surrounded by the people who loved him. From the moment the ambulance was called until he took his last breath, his children and grandchildren remained by his side. He was also surrounded by extended family and friends - a testament to the many lives he touched and the love others had for him. Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda "Sue" Price; his parents, Frank Johnson Price and Mildred Elaine Killen Price; and two brothers, Jessie Ray Price and Fred Price. He is survived by his two daughters, Kathy Price Cockrum and her husband, Robert, of Owensboro, and Karen Price Cecil and her husband, Tom, of Louisville; three grandchildren, Jaime Embry and her husband, Eric, of Hopkinsville, Garrett Milby of Summersville, and Nathan Cecil of Louisville; four great-grandchildren, Gage Kessler, Grace Embry, Wesley Milby, and Sumina Milby; and a host of other dear relatives and friends. Although Bud will be missed more than words can express, his family finds peace in knowing that he was welcomed home by his loving Savior and that, after six long years apart, his heart was made whole again when he was reunited with his beloved Sue.

The funeral service will be 1 PM Central Time Monday, September 21, 2026, at Foster-Toler-Curry in Greensburg with Rev. Dannie Nelson and Rev. Meryl Young officiating. The burial will follow in the Hodges Chapel Cemetery in the Summersville Community of Green County with Full Military Honors provided by the Marion County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

The visitation will be 1 PM until 8 PM Central Time Sunday, September 20, 2026, and after 7 AM Central Time Monday, September 21, 2026, at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be donations to Hodges Chapel Cemetery. These can be made at the funeral home.
