Douglas O. Absher was born on February 20, 1967 in Greensburg, Kentucky to Barry Absher and the late Norma Wathen Absher of Greensburg, Kentucky. He departed this life on Saturday, April 25, 2026 in Bradenton, Florida, having attained the age of 59 years, 2 months and 5 days.
Doug had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Aetna Grove Baptist Church. He devoted his life to helping others as a registered nurse in Greensburg, Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky, before traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada and eventually settling in Bradenton, Florida. His passion was helping those most in need in both Trauma ICU and Cardiovascular ICU. There were many nurses who said they became a better nurse under his guidance. He took great pride in his work, but he also loved a good prank as well among his fellow co-workers, family and friends. His laughter was contagious and the sound would fill up the room. If you spent any time with Doug, you knew he was passionate about his dogs, cooking for his friends and family, bantering with his sister, Alabama Football, and Kentucky Basketball. His love of football started at a young age when in the 1st grade he announced to Ms. Joyce Ward, “Me wants to play football”. Thus, was origin of his childhood nickname “Me”. He also passed on his passion for football through coaching both little league and as an Assistant Coach for the Green County Middle School. Doug touched and saved many lives in his time here with us.
He was preceded in death by his mother Norma Jean Wathen Absher July 26, 2020. Also preceding him in death are his paternal grandmother Louise Absher, maternal grandmother Evelyn Bale Wathen and maternal grandfather Ray Gordon Wathen.
Along with his father, Barry Absher, he is survived by a sister, Alecia Absher of Greensburg, Kentucky, significant other, Torry Schilling of Bradenton, Florida and paternal grandfather, Rollin Holmes and his wife Ruby of Columbia, Kentucky, along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
